SCANIA INDIA :- Scania India bus plant inauguration on 31st March 2015

It is from this new Scania India bus plant that the Swedish manufacturer will be producing its Metrolink buses which till date have been brought in as fully built up units.

Local manufacturing of Scania buses will ensure competitive pricing, especially at a time when competition in this segment is heating up with Daimler India Commercial Vehicles also planning to inaugurate its facility near Chennai in the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Production of Scania buses will commence from later this month after inauguration of the new facility. Scania India bus plant will produce premium range of buses, which will compete with the Volvo buses, Mercedes Benz Buses and Magna range from Tata Motors.

Scania Commercial Vehicles India bus manufacturing unit was set for operations at the end of 2014, however delay in construction and various other issues postponed manufacturing processes. Thus far the company has invested INR 300 crores in the Naraspura facility. The truck plant has capacity of 2,500 units per annum while the bus plant will be able to produce 1,000 units per year. This will allow the company to compete in the premium intercity bus segment in India.

Scania coaches have been successfully running in India and cater to the demands in western and southern parts of the country. The company is seeing a positive response and is also introducing these environmentally friendly buses in northern parts of the country as well. Mr Anders Grundstromer, their MD, has stated that the new Union Budget 2015 will help them further their growth in the country.
